Personality
From the very get-go, Bjarte exerts a large, loud presence around him. Loud and fun-loving, Bjarte's life purpose is essentially a constant pursuit of enjoyment and thrill. Battle, feasts, even flings and one-night stands are all on the table for the fun he seeks.
All this may make him seem irresponsible and selfish beyond his own pleasure, but Bjarte's philosophy is that life is best enjoyed alongside other people, so he also takes an active effort to get other people to join him in his merriment.
Despite having been separated from his little brother at a young age, Bjarte still maintains a sense of brotherly instinct, and is thus more than happy to take younger friends under his wing. However, he openly admits to being a bad influence, and thus will still warn that he isn't the best company to keep around.
Once in a while, Bjarte thinks back to the separation of his family, more specifically the little brother he hasn't seen in a long time. While he doesn't get too hung up about it, it does sadden him on some level, and he dreams of meeting his little brother again someday.
Backstory
The eldest son of a pirate and an acolyte of Njord, Bjarte would go with his mother after she and his father part ways. Despite living with her in the temple, however, she and her fellow priests would know no peace from the child who would quickly prove to be an incorrigible riot who clearly had no plans of taking after his mother.
Nevertheless, Bjarte's mother was determined to take this development in stride, and despite their differences and his incompatibility with the life of an acolyte, Bjarte's relationship with his mother is ultimately a healthy, loving relationship. She would even make arrangements for him to learn how to ride horses and wield weapons to indulge him in his growing interest in the ways of combat.
Still, as Bjarte grew into an adult man, it would become abundantly clear that he was never meant to stay in the temple, let alone take on the pious life his mother did. Thus, he ventures out, living the life of a wandering mercenary to enjoy the freedom life has to offer.
